One of the perks of this job is getting to learn a little bit about each of the jobs we have the good fortune to film. While we can't legally perform open heart surgery, we can tell you exactly what it looks like because we've seen it up close and personal through the camera lens. Much of our medical filming takes place as part of larger conferences and events where doctors from around the world can tune in to the live surgeries, asking questions and giving advice in real time as the scalpels slice and dice. We usually have several cameras set up in the operating room, and our high-definition switcher is set up in an adjoining control room. From here, we can send a live feed out via satellite to a conference room in Leipzig, for example, and let them see exactly how to place a balloon catheter over a guide wire and insert a stent into a narrowed coronary artery. Like we said, we can tell you what it looks like, but some things are best left to the professionals.
