Cinematography (noun)-- "the art of making motion pictures" 

 

That description leaves a lot to be desired, doesn't it?  It's not just pointing the camera and hoping everything works out.  Cinematography is all about the forethought and experience to know what's possible...and the creativity and flexibility to push that boundary further. 

It's having the right lighting to induce the right mood at the right moment. It's doing whatever it takes to get the camera in position for that one linchpin shot that holds the whole production together.  It's sweating the details, planning ahead, choosing the correct equipment for the job and executing on the plan with a keen and practiced eye.
